Camera-Friendly Clothing Tips: for your next photoshoot
Shopping was always something I loved. Growing up in a small town meant a shopping trip was a big event—usually taking up the whole day. I’d get excited every time.
While I get older, shopping feels like just another task to check off my list. When I need new clothes, I usually approach it with a game plan.
For my clients, I like to help them come up with an outfit strategy for their photoshoots as well. While I’m not a personal stylist, I can definitely assist in picking pieces that complement your brand and photograph well.
Today, though, I’m sharing some clothing tips from a photographer’s point of view. Let’s break it down: what works well on camera versus what not quite.
Clothes That Are Camera-Friendly:
- Soft shades (vivid colors can work too, but steer clear of neon)
- Light wash denim (for some reason, it always looks great on camera)
- Blazers
- Patterned dresses
- Hats
Clothes That Aren’t So Camera-Friendly UNLESS they are for Editorial/Creative photoshoot:
- Tight patterns (they can create an odd visual effect on camera)
- Silk (it tends to reflect light in ways you might not want)
- Linen (it wrinkles easily and can look messy)
- Neon (please, just avoid it)
